Obama Demeans Himself on Immigration

May 12, 2011 By Steve McCann

The mendacity of Barack Obama continues to know no bounds.  He has now embarked on a campaign to sow the seeds of distrust and animosity within the Latino community on the issue of illegal immigration.  With his “the ends justify the means” mentality he has no hesitation to play the race card and to utter the most inflammatory rhetoric at every opportunity in order to win re-election.

The matter of illegal immigration, and more importantly the current regime’s unwillingness to secure the southern border, is among the defining issues of the day.   It encompasses not only the legality of unfettered immigration and its impact on a devastated economy, but rampant crime and national security.  Yet this President treats it as if it was simply a topic to exploit for his personal ends.

For a President of the United States to behave in this manner is crass and reprehensible, as he has no intention on working with others to solve this issue in a fair and equitable manner.  Illegal immigration is first and foremost a violation of the law and cannot be rewarded.

PreviewAriz. Sheriff: Feds Order Release of Illegals to Phony Up Numbers

The U.S. Border Patrol has told its agents to stop arresting illegal aliens crossing the border from Mexico to keep the illegal immigration numbers down, Arizona Sheriff Larry Dever says.

Obama Drops Immigration Ball on Congress
President Barack Obama wants immigration, but he also wants Congress to do the heavy lifting, The Hill reports. That’s trademark Obama style, mirroring his approach to healthcare, financial reform, energy reform, and the budget. Indeed, congressmen on both sides of the aisle have complained about his lack of leadership on these issues.

As for immigration reform, it has little chance of passage without the president’s full engagement. And even if he does get heavily involved the gap between Republican and Democratic views on the issue is huge.

Some critics speculate that Obama is bringing up immigration now simply to assure Hispanic voters that he agrees with them on the issue so that he doesn’t lose their votes next November.

Bill Fletcher Jr - Leading Socialist Calls for Mass Actions, Law Breaking, to Re-Elect Obama in 2012 (and that includes illegals of course)

Submitted by Trevor on April 28, 2011

Bill Fletcher, Jr., is a Senior Scholar with the far left Institute for Policy Studies, and a member of both Democratic Socialists of America and the Freedom Road Socialist Organization.

In 2008, Fletcher co-founded Progressives for Obama, with veteran communist activist Tom Hayden, leftist actor as well as Chavez and Castro lover Danny Glover and fellow DSAer Barbara Ehrenreich.

Writing in The Rag Blog, Fletcher explains what “progressives” must do, to secure a victory for Barack Obama in 2008.

It is a grass roots vision, taking focus off the President and instead using mass action and the people’s movements to unseat to defeat Republicans and centrist Democrats.

It is a revolutionary vision, in that it calls for law breaking, and “masses of people making a situation untenable”.

It is an internationalist vision, looking to revolutions abroad, both for inspiration and solidarity.

This is a “people’s power” strategy, owing not a little to recent events in the Middle East.

Comrade Fletcher now talking what “progressives” must do for Obama in 2012;

1. Forget running a candidate against Obama in 2012. That would be a sure way to alienate much of his black and Latin base. Instead, there needs to be a progressive strategy focused on Congressional races. That means identifying key races to run genuine progressive candidates against conservative Democrats and/or Republicans.

2. We need to build an electoral organization that can run such candidates. There are examples of these around the country but we need to expand, ultimately building something at the national level that rivals the vision of the National Rainbow Coalition from the late 1980s. It needs to be an organization that has a mass base and can run candidates inside and outside the Democratic Party.

3. We desperately need mass action. Wisconsin was wonderful for many reasons but one important one was the sustained presence in the capitol. A protest movement focused on power needs to be prepared to break the law, not through the actions of a few individuals, but much as happened in Wisconsin, as well as in the Civil Rights movement, with masses of people making a situation untenable.

But we also have to develop key strategic targets for our actions where we are clear on what we want them to do. This will largely happen at the local level at first, but it can also happen at the national level, such as through selective boycotts.

4. We have to think and act globally and locally. We must link with social movements around the world challenging U.S. foreign policy, providing such movements with whatever level of support we can. We cannot allow more Honduras coup situations, and we have to make it clear that U.S. policy in Afghanistan is a disaster.

While many on the US left express disappointment with Obama, when push comes to shove, they will back their man to the hilt,

The US left understands that 2012 is decisive.

If a conservative Republican wins, they know that many of the US left’s hard fought gains will  be rolled back.

If Obama wins, they know the socialist juggernaut will be virtually unstoppable.

Consequently the US left, from Democrats to socialists, to Marxist-Leninists, will throw every thing into this election. Look for mass protests, street violence, intimidation and mass law breaking,  as the US left mounts a do or die, last gasp “The Offensive” against Middle America and its values.

So, Eva Longoria was brainstorming with the President last week… (wait, what?)

Please tell me this is just a ‘sweeps stunt’ for a very special episode of ABC‘s ’Desperate Housewives.’ (Desperate White House Wives?)

Nope. Ms. Longoria met with the President last week, not just once, but twice. She was part of a small group of Latino celebs brainstorming with the President “to reframe the immigration argument.’

Watch the short clip as she reveals a key part of the Democratic Party’s plan to take back the House in 2012.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwaV7r5gcAY&feature=player_embedded

Based on that brief statement, it is apparent that Democrats are enlisting Latino celebrities to revive the Dream Act. And any incumbent who does not support Immigration Reform, ‘will pay.’

The Immigration911 citizens’ bill for immigration reform

Stop illegal immigration and protect the rule of law in the United States. Polls show that over 70% of the American people want sweeping changes in our immigration laws and strict enforcement. With runaway government spending leading us toward bankruptcy, immigration reform is essential to shoring up deficits, curbing entitlement growth and creating American jobs. To ensure this reform reflects the will of American citizens, we must take action now!

2009 Federal Expenditures on Illegal Immigrants  $28,795,400,000
2009 State / Local Expenditures on Illegal Immigrants  $84,211,000,000
NET TOTAL after offset of various taxes received $99,594,600,000

and since 2009: $157,748,601,348 and growing!

The Immigration911 citizens’ bill subjects your lawmakers to the will of American citizens. This website allows you to vote on the issues and generate multiple, individually addressed copies of a standard or custom letter to your elected officials. It automatically determines who your elected officials are and what their addresses are. It also tallies votes specific to each elected official’s jurisdiction and attaches a statistical addendum to each letter. This means that with every letter they receive, they will be up-to-date on the latest numbers reflecting their constituent’s feelings on immigration reform. It also means their choice will be clear: Either vote to reflect the will of the people or be voted out of office!

Please join the Immigration911 movement and help save our country. You may feel helpless now, but by spending 10 minutes to complete the following 5 steps, you will be doing something that counts to stop illegal immigration!

Byron York – To House GOP, illegal immigration is a jobs issue

With Republicans now in control of the House Judiciary Committee, Attorney General Eric Holder and other Justice Department officials are going to be answering a lot of questions in the next two years. Rep. Lamar Smith, new chairman of the committee, lists a bunch of priorities: immigration, national security, the constitutionality of Obamacare, lawsuit abuse, intellectual property, and more. There are many areas in which Republicans and Holder are likely to disagree, but the most contentious could be immigration, starting with the enforcement of federal laws to prevent the employment of illegal immigrants. Ask Smith what he’ll be investigating, and it’s the first thing he mentions. “One initial hearing will be on work site enforcement,” he says. “We want to find out why the administration is not doing more to enforce current laws. Workplace enforcement has dropped 70 percent under the Obama administration.”

Book Celebrating Suicide Bombers Found in Arizona Desert US – “In Memory of Our Martyrs” -

Fox News has an exclusive report detailing how a book celebrating suicide bombers has been found in the Arizona desert just north of the U.S.- Mexican border: The book, “In Memory of Our Martyrs,” was spotted Tuesday by a U.S. Border Patrol agent out of the Casa Grande substation who was patrolling a route known for smuggling illegal immigrants and drugs. Agents also say that the book appears to have been exposed to weather in the desert “for at least several days or weeks.”

Published in Iran, it consists of short biographies of Islamic suicide bombers and other Islamic militants who died carrying out attacks. According to internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection documents, “The book also includes letters from suicide attackers to their families, as well as some of their last wills and testaments.“ Each biographical page contains ”the terrorist’s name, date of death, and how they died.”

Read the entire report from FoxNews.com.

Editor’s note: A portion of the recent documentary, “Rumor of War,” released by Glenn Beck deals specifically with this topic. It discusses Iran’s infiltration of Mexican drug cartels and the push to enter America through its southern border. That documentary can be viewed here.

Obama quietly erasing borders

Dem administration advancing ‘North American Union’ agenda

Posted: December 15, 2010 By Jerome R. Corsi © 2010 WorldNetDaily

Acting quietly, below the radar of U.S. public opinion and without congressional approval, the Obama administration is implementing a key policy objective of the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America, or SPP, to erase the border with Mexico and Canada.

The administration is acting under a State Department-declared policy initiative described in a March 23 fact sheet titled “United States-Mexico Partnership: A New Border Vision.”  More….

Obama government using domestic spy group to watch Americans (while illegals who have invaded our country, are given aid and comfort by the administration’s policies run amok, and while one of the biggest threats with regard to radical Islam is our illegal immigration and open borders)

The government led by Barack Obama is creating a domestic spying network to collect information about Americans, the Washington Post reported Monday. FBI, local police, state homeland security offices and military criminal investigators are being used to do the collection of information. The system collects, stores and analyzes information about thousands of US citizens and residents, many of whom have not been accused of any wrongdoing. The government’s goal is to have law enforcement agencies in the country feed information to Washington to aid the FBI in the collection. According to the report, the network includes 4,058 federal, state and local organizations, each with its own counter-terrorism responsibilities and jurisdictions.

In use are technologies and techniques developed on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan and have been adapted for use in the United States. In addition, the FBI is building a database with the names and personal information of thousands of US citizens and residents, the report said. The database is accessible to an increasing number of local law enforcement and military criminal investigators, the report noted.

In a bid to counter what is seen as a threat from radical Islam, some law enforcement agencies have hired as trainers people whose extremist views on Islam and terrorism are considered inaccurate and counterproductive by US intelligence agencies. This year, 3.8 billion dollars has been allocated to local law enforcement agencies.

The latest on our detestable illegal immigration problem

July 27, 2010 Leave a comment

Our loathing; of the illegal immigration (invasion and insurrection) problem in our country and our state; of the Obama administration,  the DOJ, and their war on Arizona; and of the democrats generally and specifically their insanely left leadership; has not diminished in the least. Here’s some of the latest…

Regardless of what one  liberal activist Federal Judge (a Clinton appointee) has to say, polling hasn’t changed with Americans still overwhelmingly supporting the State of Arizona and their efforts and opposing santuary cities, amnesty efforts, and illegal immigration in general.

So Gov Brewer, Sheriff Arpaio, Rep Pearce, Professor Kobach, and others – WE STAND WITH YOU.

Gov. Jan Brewer called Wednesday’s decision “a bump in the road” and vowed to appeal. The key sponsor of Arizona’s law, Republican Rep. Russell Pearce, said the judge was wrong and predicted that the state would ultimately win the case. “The ruling … should not be a reason for Utah to not move forward,” said Utah state Rep. Carl Wimmer, a Republican from Herriman City, who said he plans to co-sponsor a bill similar to Arizona’s next year and wasn’t surprised it was blocked. “For too long the states have cowered in the corner because of one ruling by one federal judge.”

Sheriff Joe Arpaio: I’ll Enforce Arizona’s Immigration Law

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the controversial top cop in Maricopa County, Ariz., tells Newsmax in an exclusive interview that the federal court ruling Wednesday blocking parts of Arizona’s popular immigration law will have little effect on how he does business. The man who’s responsible for 25 percent of all U.S. deportations plans to kick off Thursday with a major sweep to catch even more illegal immigrants.

Federal judge issues injunction against parts of Arizona’s immigration law

Tom Rowan

Welcome back to the Wild West America! “Federal Judge Bolton” blocked Arizona’s claim to enforce laws today, whether federal, state, or local.

If this decree is allowed to stand, then I demand that Florida become a “sanctuary state” in regards to drilling for oil. Why not? We could be richer than Kuwait in a matter of months! Scofflaws are to be held in a higher esteem by judges than those who would dare to enforce the laws.

We have just witnessed dyslexic liberal logic at its finest folks. Judge Bolton has decided that actual enforcement of federal laws somehow interferes with the federal government’s prerogative to ignore federal law.

Bolton has pulled yet another thread from the fabric that holds our society and ordered liberty together; The United States was grounded on being a nation of laws and not of men and their current fashions. When illegal becomes fashionable are we to ignore unfashionable laws already on the books? If the AZ law is so outside the bounds then where is the clamor to repeal the federal laws that it simply mirrors?

If this ruling stands, then all bets are off in regards to the rule of law. Far away men in black robes shall decide our fate, safety, and lives from the comfort of their benches. The ACLU runs our legal system along with our wars. Do we have to ask the ACLU permission to go to the bathroom? Apparently, we better check with our guardians of civil rights.

Federal laws against marijuana are flouted in California yet that never seems to collide with State Vs Feds authority of enforcement. Do federal kidnapping laws trump enforcement of state and local law enforcement of kidnapping? If the feds will not enforce kidnapping laws or bank robbery are we all just to throw up our hands and give up and give in to crime? Ignorance of the law or ignoring the law does not make something legal.

Decriminalization of law is practiced everyday by liberal judges. They smite mandatory minimum sentencing laws, reduce sentences for the alleged problem of “overcrowding” in prisons, and generally turn out menaces to society on a daily basis. (Hello Lindsey Lohan!)

It was once said that God created all men and Sam Colt made them equal. But don’t worry; the feds are wasting no time in decriminalizing illegality and criminalizing the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution. No wonder ammo & gun sales are up in the downer Obama economy. “Does hope & change” really mean the return to the Wild West where the rule of law came at the point of a gun?

Judge Bolton’s decree invites Arizonans to ignore her very own decree in the instant case. Why not? It’s all the rage, it is very fashionable, and everyone else is doing it.

(Look how much worse the problem is in NY than AZ, and what is the NYS Governement doing, nothing but going in the wrong direction. Sanctuary cities in Ny contributing to the problem have only grown worse, and as the the budget gap issue, well these are 2009 numbers, and as we know 2010 is far far worse)

As if the security risks and various degrees of economic harm aren’t bad enough, how about this perspective concerning our health:

Is Illegal Immigration Bad for America’s Health?

by Dr. Manny Alvarez

The simple answer is: Yes. If you look at the way that legal immigration is conducted around the world, it is always based on a set of checks and balances. One of those checks is the prevention of certain communicable diseases.

Here is a list of things people applying for visa/residency status in this country may be tested for during their physical exam as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Tuberculosis, Syphilis (for applicants 15 years or older), HIV (blood test), Gonorrhea, Narcotic drug addiction, Physical or mental disorders with associated harmful behavior, Chancroid, Lymphogranuloma venerum, Granuloma inguinal

Under the immigration laws of the United States, a foreign national who applies for an immigrant visa abroad, or who seeks to adjust status to a permanent resident while in the U.S., is required to receive vaccinations to prevent the following diseases:

Mumps Measles-Rubella, Polio, Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids, Pertussis, Haemophilus influenzae type B, Hepatitis B, Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices

Now, this list is not just an American standard — you will find similar lists in most developed countries around the world. Without a system of checks and balances, we run the risk of having diseases that have otherwise been eradicated in this country coming back in a big way. When people travel here illegally, they could have the potential to spread certain diseases that could be very devastating to the general population.

Let’s take tuberculosis for instance. Active tuberculosis is a very dangerous communicable disease that is easily spread if someone is an active carrier. Early onset of tuberculosis may not have any warning signs, and yet it could develop into a full-blown case of the disease, as we have seen happen many times over the last decade in this country. One of the scariest things about tuberculosis, is that there are now many strains of the disease that are resistant to the current medical treatments.

The prevalence of other diseases like malaria and Chagas disease – which is a parasitic infection in the blood stream – are being seen more frequently in areas of the country where some of these diseases were not present before. In the case of Chagas disease, more and more blood banks are testing for this parasite since it can be transmitted inadvertently during a routine blood transfusion. If infected blood happens to be given to patient with a compromised immune system, the consequences can be deadly.

I’m not here to argue what the best solution is for immigration laws in this country. My family and I are certainly beneficiaries of having the opportunity to come to this country and embrace the American dream. However, I do know that whatever immigration policy this administration decides to implement, a non-compromising point must be that the health of the American people be protected, because if we do not protect the health of our citizens, the long-term effects could be dangerous.

Speaking of health, does this sound like emergency life savings proceedures to you?

PENIS PUMPS FOR ILLEGALS?

by Todd StarnesA Minnesota town is outraged over reports that an illegal immigrant was implanted with a penis pump – paid for by taxpayers.

Shakopee Police Chief Jeff Tate said the expense to taxpayers was more than $50,000.

“It’s shocking,” he told FOX News Radio. “It’s certainly disturbing as well. You know it’s not going to set well with the public at large.”

Scott County Attorney Pat Ciliberto wants to know how an illegal immigrant was able to obtain tens of thousands of dollars in medical assistance.

“There’s no logical argument for why that should have been approved,” Ciliberto told the Shakopee News. “I don’t know how many illegal aliens are getting emergency medical assistance for such a procedure.”

Ciliberto told county commissioners the cost of taking care of illegal immigrants in their community is skyrocketing.

“It should be obvious when Scott County goes from seven bookings in 2006 to 90 bookings in 2009 – that Arizona’s problem is Minnesota’s problem, too,” he told the newspaper.

According to published numbers, the county spent more than $800,000 housing inmates with immigration holds – and that doesn’t include medical coverage.

“We have no control over the southern border,” he said. “We don’t know who is coming in and what country they’re coming from.”

Regardless, local officials said they are required by federal and state laws to provide welfare to illegals – from court costs to health care – including a penis pump.

At least one local said they sympathize with the plight of Arizonans.

“My hats off to Arizona, to people who’ve said, ‘We’ve had enough,’” Commissioner Barbara Marschall told the newspaper. “We’re thousands (of) miles away from the southern border. It’s here and it’s going to get worse.”

AZ Accuses ACLU of Spreading Hate, Fear - Because they are. Remember the ACLU is, was, and apprently will always be a communist and anti christian front group. They are a despotic organization and we have nothing but utter contempt for their positions on this issue.

And yet another example of how much of the “public” education system in many instances is on the wrong side of this issue too!

UNIVERSITY ACCUSED OF HELPING ILLEGALS

A Georgia university president is under fire for granting in-state tuition to a student who is an illegal immigrant and to make matters worse, for using taxpayer-funded resources to interfere with and stop the student’s deportation process.

The controversy surrounds Jessica Colotl. In March her life began to unravel. Colotl was stopped by campus police and arrested on charges of not having a valid driver’s license. Police ran a background check and determined she was in fact – an illegal immigrant.

According to an account in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, her family snuck into the country from Mexico 11 years ago. Until now, the family’s illegal immigration status had gone unnoticed.

A ridiculous policy to begin with; undocumented students are allowed to enroll at Georgia universities but they must pay out-of-state tuition – typically three times as much as in-state. Colotl though was allowed to pay in-state tuition.

As a result of an agreement between local police and the federal government, Colotl was transferred to a detention center where deportation proceedings were launched. That’s where the story gets a bit unusual.

KSU’s president, Daniel Papp allegedly intervened on her behalf. According to the AJC, the university released a statement that said Coltl was a student in good standing and a leader of several campus groups (so what). He also asked that, within the letter of the law, she be allowed to return to the university to finish her education (uh, the letter of the law would be that she is deported and comes back through legal means).

Last week, authorities decided to release her from custody and President Papp said she will be welcomed back to the university. “She was granted a deferment to finish her education,” Papp said in a written statement. “This is great news for Ms. Colotl, her family and friends and for the KSU community. (really!)

Not everyone is overjoyed at the news. Phil Kent, a spokesman for Americans For Immigration Control is demanding the KSU president be fired. “President Papp ought to be fired by the regents of the university,” Kent told WAGA. “He’s undermined the rule of law.”

“Our colleges must not be turned into sanctuaries for illegal immigrants,” he said in a prepared statement. “Papp’s bleeding-heart actions are especially an insult to Georgia taxpayers and their children who hope to attend college yet are discriminated against in favor of illegal immigrants.”

The Republican candidate for governor is also making political hay out of the issue. Eric Johnson issued a statement calling for tougher rules for students who are in the country illegally.

As for Colotl’s family, they are troubled by the incident. Her mother, who does not speak English (still after 11 years !), told WAGA through a translator that the fair solution is to let her daughter finish her education and then return to Mexico. (Fair, you know whats not fair, you sneaking into our country, remaining knowingly illegal all this time, driving without licenses, taking advantage of the tax payers of this country vis a vis the tuition issue, and who knows what else. Want someone to blame, blame yourselves).

Federal Judge Rips Pres. Obama’s Lawsuit Against Arizona

Did you know? and do you wonder why?

Rhode island – no lawsuit no boycott, Arizona – a lawsuit and a boycott.

Supporters of Arizona’s new illegal immigration law have in recent weeks cited Rhode Island as a state where police have been quietly carrying out comparably tough enforcement without a court challenge from the Obama administration.

In Rhode Island, both sides of the debate agree that the executive order issued by Gov. Don Carcieri in 2008 is less sweeping than the Arizona law, which takes effect this month. However there are comparisons of the two approaches which do tend to rationalize the law in Arizona, generally more conservative than Rhode Island, a heavily Democratic state. Of course not is you ask Steven Brown, a leading critic of the governor’s order and executive director of the Rhode Island affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union.

“The only reason I can see individuals focusing on Rhode Island is for political purposes and stretching what’s happened here as a way to try and compare a largely Democratic state — a blue state — with a red state and somehow claim that Rhode Island should be looked at similarly,” Brown said. Arizona’s law makes it a crime to be in the state illegally; Rhode Island’s executive order has no such provision. Arizona’s law requires local police officers, while enforcing other laws, to check the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. Rhode Island’s order directs the State Police to help with immigration enforcement and encourages — but, importantly, does not require — local police to seek a suspect’s immigration status.

Really,

State troopers in Rhode Island routinely check the immigration status of crime suspects, as well as people pulled over for traffic violations, if they have reasonable suspicion and will alert federal immigration authorities if it’s determined someone is in the country illegally, said State Police Superintendent Brendan Doherty.

A Boston-based federal appeals court last year upheld a Rhode Island trooper’s decision during a 2006 traffic stop to seek immigration documents from passengers in a van carrying about a dozen Guatemalans who were in the country illegally.

In a July 7 post on the National Review website titled “United States v. Arizona — How ‘Bout United States v. Rhode Island?”, commentator Andrew McCarthy, a former New York federal prosecutor, asked why the Obama administration had not already sued Rhode Island for “carrying out the procedures at issue in the Arizona immigration statute.”

William Jacobson, an associate law professor at Cornell University, wrote this month on his blog, Legal Insurrection, that “Arizona is the new Rhode Island” and said it was ironic that strict enforcement practices would be carried out in the “state of Sheldon Whitehouse,” a Democratic senator.

And an Internet post this month by commentator Ed Morrissey said Rhode Island has been doing for years what Arizona now wants to do — but “without a peep” from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The Justice Department did not immediately return an e-mail seeking comment Monday on whether it had considered challenging laws in states other than Arizona.

Carcieri imposed the executive order in March 2008, blaming illegal immigrants for using up state resources and, like Arizona officials, faulting the federal government for failing to control the problem. The Pew Hispanic Center has estimated Rhode Island’s illegal immigrant population as between 20,000 and 40,000. (now consider why AZ’s approach though similar, is tougher, than RI. The numbers are in the 100′s of thousands, not 10′s of thousands)

The executive order in Rhode Island, as well as Arizona’s law, prompted an outcry from civil rights groups and immigrant advocates who feared it could lead to racial profiling. Some who support the order say they don’t think it goes far enough and prefer the Arizona law, which is the target of a Justice Department lawsuit and is set to take effect July 29.

Now as we’ve advocated many times, on the issue of sanctuary cities, to which there are varying degrees of throughout the country, some are outright aggregious (several in NY, and especially Gavin Newsome’s San Francisco as one of the worst examples). They need to be shut down, officials thrown out of office, and some even prosecuted.

Critics Question Why Obama Administration Doesn’t Crack Down on Sanctuary Cities

By Molly Henneberg

Published July 15, 2010

Now that the Obama administration is suing Arizona over its tough immigration law, some critics are asking why so-called sanctuary cities are getting a pass for ignoring federal immigration law.

More than 50 cities in the U.S provide sanctuaries to illegal immigrants. Supporters of such policies say they want the local police to focus on solving crimes and leave the immigration work to the federal authorities.

“What sanctuary cities are saying is, we are not going to preempt the federal government. It’s the federal government’s responsibilities,” said Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill.

But Richard Land, the president of Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Liberty Commission, said while he supports comprehensive immigration reform, he opposes sanctuary cities.

“We can’t have government officials deciding which laws they are going to enforce or not enforce. That undermines the rule of law. We have to have officials who are under the rule of law,” he said.

Sanctuary cities are not a new idea. They’ve been around for decades and no administration — Democrat of Republican — has really gone after them.

But the Obama administration is going after Arizona for its new law that permits officers to ask about a person’s immigration status during the course of other law enforcement duties, such as a traffic stops. Opponents say the law promotes racial profiling and is unconstitutional. But supporters deny those charges.

“The Arizona law is in compliance with federal law,” said Rosemary Jenks, director of government relations at Numbers USA. “The Justice Department should stay out of it. They should be encouraging Arizona to be enforcing the laws. Secondly, they should be enforcing federal immigration law, which means challenging cities and states that have sanctuary policies.”

The Justice Department sees it differently, saying Arizona is unconstitutionally interfering with the federal government’s role in immigration control. “There is a big difference between a state or locality saying they are not going to use their resources to enforce a federal law, as so-called sanctuary cities have done, and a state passing its own immigration policy that actively interferes with federal law,” Justice spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler said.

(We dissent, Schmaler – Holder – State officials in sanctuary cities – et al, are not only wrong but they are fools. It is they who are acting unconstitutionally not doing their duty, violating their oaths of office, while perpetuating bad policy and disregard for the law that brings harm in many ways to this Country and our States. To suggest that it’s OK for states not to uphold enumerated constitutional federal laws in this instance is to suggest they don’t have to uphold or enforce any, which is course is a crock. Furthermore, states have rights and also a duty to protect their “citizens” and in a border state like AZ, they have even more constitutional authority in the matter than a state like RI.)

To those who support the Arizona law and oppose the idea of sanctuary cities, the Justice Department positions seem like a cop-out.

“The administration has shown again and again it has no intention of enforcing federal immigration laws,” Jenks said.

Obama’s Illegal Immigration Policy: Break the Law, Don’t get Sued

Usually if someone does something illegal, they face criminal charges, a lawsuit, or some other law enforcement action. If someone follows the law, then everything is OK. Afterall, the whole basis for having a law is so that people will follow it, right? Now, let’s look at that idea in terms of local governments. Applying the same principle, a state or local government that attempts to follow a federal law, should be in good shape. But those governments which don’t uphold the law should be subject to prosecution and lawsuits, right? Well, maybe in a “normal” country under “normal” circumstances. However, we are in Obama’s world now, and if you try to enforce illegal immigration laws, you will be sued. Ignore them, and you’ll be fine. Read more

Mexican Border: Route 66 for Terrorists?

July 24, 2010 by Norah Petersen,

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed this week, Representative Jane Harman (D-California) and Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) call attention to the on-going threat of Al- Qaeda’s pursuit of dirty bombs. In the article, Harman and Collins cite the danger of terrorist at-large, Adnan el-Shukrijumah, who was recently indicted for his connection to the New York City subway bomb plot. Harman and Collins relate that Shukrijumah is “a trained nuclear technician allegedly tasked by al Qaeda with carrying off an “American Hiroshima.”

What Harman and Collins fail to mention in their op-ed, is that, according to law enforcement officials , Shukrijumah (alias “Jafar the Pilot”) may have traveled into the United States via the Mexican border in 2004.

Sigifredo Gonzalez, Jr., sheriff of Zapata County in Texas, stated in a 2009 written testimony before a subcomittee of the House Committee on Homeland Security :

Amazing News Clip Video – everyone should watch this and forward it to everyone you know.

Congress Avoids Best Solution to Assisting Unemployed Americans

Isn’t the danger of our unsecured border inextricably related to the threat of dirty bombs and the threat of terrorism in general? It would seem so. Yet, if those in Washington feel that way, they have done a smashing job of keeping it to themselves.

When will politicians stop sweeping this crisis under the rug? Without border security there is no homeland security and there is no national security.

“We have always maintained that if you don’t live on the border you don’t know how vulnerable this country is for a terrorist attack. Persons living 50 miles or more away from the border have the impression that this border is very well protected. This is a farce. The border is not protected.”
by Chris Chmielenski, NumbersUSA

While the Senate spent a good part of the week working on an extension of benefits for unemployed Americans, the news was filled with stories that screamed of other obvious ways to help solve the problem.

First, court proceedings began in Arizona on Thursday where the federal government launched its effort at shutting down Arizona’s attempt at enforcing immigration laws. Earlier in the week, more than 80 Members of Congress signed a Friend-of-the-Court brief, supporting Arizona and its right to protect its citizens, especially the unemployed. Laws similar to the one passed in Arizona would help free up the 8 million jobs currently held by illegal aliens.

Meanwhile, a clear line was drawn in the Senate between lawmakers who want tougher enforcement of immigration laws and those that don’t. The Senate struck down an amendment offered by Sen. DeMint (R-S.C.) that would have prevented Justice Department funds from being used in the lawsuit against Arizona. Check our vote tracker to see how your two Senators voted and check your Action Board for new actions in response to their vote.

Also in the news this week was Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke’s report to Congress on the state of the economy. Bernanke said it would be years before the unemployment rate dropped below 7%. Just a few weeks ago, the esteemed Brookings Institute released a report on the same topic, and by their calculations, it would take 11 years for the number of jobs lost during the recession to be recovered. But journalist and blogger David Frum was quick to note that the Brookings’ report factored in population growth, but failed to mention the greatest source of that growth – legal immigration.

So while leaders in Congress bickered over ways to provide benefits to America’s unemployed, they continue to avoid a simple, low-cost solution – enforce existing immigration laws and a call for a moratorium on legal immigration.

Have the Democrats Learned Anything from Vietnam?

By Michael Filozof

The Vietnam War was the defining event for the modern Democratic Party. Nearly four decades after the war ended, we ought to ask if the Democrats learned anything from Vietnam that is applicable to Afghanistan.

In Vietnam, the U.S. fought an insurgency in a remote, forbidding jungle that neutralized our tactical advantage. In Afghanistan, we are fighting an insurgency in remote, forbidding mountains that neutralize our tactical advantage.

In Vietnam, the insurgents had no armor and no air power. They attacked American patrols with jury-rigged explosives called “booby traps.” In Afghanistan, the insurgents have no armor and no air power. They attack American patrols with jury-rigged explosives called “IEDs.”

In Vietnam, a socialist country tried to defeat the insurgents before the U.S. became involved. It failed. It was called “France.” In Afghanistan, a socialist country also tried to defeat the insurgents before the U.S. became involved. It also failed. It was called the “Soviet Union.”

In Vietnam, American involvement began by sending advisers, Special Forces, and CIA operatives. Nine years later, we had hundreds of thousands of troops in combat brigades stationed there. In Afghanistan, American involvement began by sending in advisers, Special Forces, and CIA operatives. Nine years later, we have combat brigades and over a hundred thousand troops stationed there.

In Vietnam, the insurgents routinely obtained assistance and sanctuary in a foreign nation where U.S. forces were forbidden to go. It was called “Cambodia.” In Afghanistan, insurgents routinely obtain assistance and sanctuary in a foreign nation where U.S. troops are forbidden to go. It is called “Pakistan.”

In Vietnam, the U.S. sought to protect the population from insurgents through a program called “Strategic Hamlets.” It didn’t work. In Afghanistan, the U.S. is seeking to protect the population from the insurgents with a program called “Clear, Build, and Hold.” It isn’t working, either.

In Vietnam, the U.S. supported a corrupt ruler who rigged elections in an attempt to give his regime a veneer of legitimacy. His name was “Diem.” In Afghanistan, the U.S. is supporting a corrupt ruler who rigged elections to give himself a veneer of legitimacy. His name is “Karzai.”

In Vietnam, the U.S. declared that its goal was to train and equip an indigenous force to hold off the insurgents by themselves. They were called the ARVN (Army of the Republic of Vietnam). The ARVN turned out to be incompetent and corrupt. In Afghanistan, our strategy is to train and equip indigenous forces called the ANA (Afghan National Army). The ANA is also incompetent and corrupt.

We fought in Vietnam for over a decade, but Congress never declared war on Vietnam. We have fought in Afghanistan for nine years with no end in sight, and Congress has not declared war on Afghanistan, either.

The Vietnam War was escalated by a Democratic president named “Johnson.” Johnson could not afford to look soft on communism in the 1964 campaign because his Republican opponent was a hawkish fighter pilot from Arizona named “Goldwater.” The Afghanistan war was escalated by a Democratic president named “Obama.” Obama could not afford to look soft on terrorism in the 2008 campaign, because his Republican opponent was a hawkish fighter pilot from Arizona named “McCain.”

Although Johnson was responsible for escalating the Vietnam War, his real interest was in domestic politics, where he presided over a massive expansion of the welfare state and created expensive federal health care programs called “Medicare” and “Medicaid.” While Obama is responsible for escalating the Afghan war, his real interest is in domestic politics, where he has massively expanded the welfare state and created an expensive federal health care program called “Obamacare.”

Rather than leave the battlefield tactics in Vietnam up to his field commanders, Johnson was known for micromanaging the war and manipulating bombing strategies and other rules of engagement that prevented the U.S. forces from going all-out. In Afghanistan, Obama has micromanaged the war with restrictive rules of engagement that prevent the U.S. forces from going all-out.

In Vietnam, the United States lost. In Afghanistan…we’re not winning.

Have the Democrats learned anything from Vietnam? Actually, they have learned many important lessons.

First, they have learned that anti-war riots and protests should be conducted only against Republican presidents, not Democratic presidents. (Isn’t it amazing how Code Pink and Cindy Sheehan disappeared after George W. Bush left office?)

Second, they have learned to not send Jane Fonda to enemy territory to pose for enemy propaganda photos. Unlike the warm reception she received in Hanoi, the Taliban would probably behead her live on the internet for failing to wear a burqa.

Third, they have learned that if a Democratic presidential candidate plans to conduct a foreign policy of national self-abasement and groveling before our enemies, it is probably better to not announce it during the campaign. George McGovern promised that he’d “crawl on his hands and knees to Hanoi and beg for peace” in 1972 and lost 49 states. Obama did not apologize to the Muslim world and bow before foreign monarchs until after he was elected.

Finally, the most important lesson the Democrats have learned is that they should not draft long-haired, stoned hippies and America-hating radicals on college campuses and send them to war. They’ll only riot and try to bomb the Pentagon (like Bill Ayers did). And it makes no sense to offend the voters who are virtually guaranteed to support the Democratic Party anyway.

It’s far better to prosecute a war with patriotic, America-loving volunteers from red states who probably voted Republican in the first place, and to play them for suckers by sending them on a mission about which you’ve said you’re “uncomfortable” using the term “victory.”

The Democrats have indeed learned a lot from Vietnam, haven’t they?

Commodus Castigates a Centurion

By Jeannie DeAngelis

Emperor Lucius Aurelius Commodus, son of Marcus Aurelius, the “last of five good emperors,” ruled Rome from AD 177 to AD 192. History tells us that Commodus “proved to be a self-indulgent, disconnected leader.” In fact, Commodus‘ “accession to power ended a spell of 80 years in Roman history which had brought men to the throne by merit rather than birth.”

Supposedly, Imperator Caesar Lucius Aurelius Commodus Augustus was filled with “cruelty, vanity, power and fear,” which “formed into a terrifyingly dangerous mix of bloodlust, suspicion and megalomania.”

Thousands of years have passed, and presently, America is being ruled by Barack Obama. Obama also maneuvers his way through the political empire like a Roman emperor whose objective is retention of power by way of wile, stealth, and intimidation.

Defy or disparage Obama, and a suspicious president adopts dealing with the offender as his top priority and behaves like an obsessed Commodus, pursuing enemies who are armed only with blunted weapons. In fact, Obama’s ancient predecessor Commodus “is said to have feigned a plot against his own life, in order that he might have an excuse for putting many to death.”

Take for example Arizona daring to enact immigration law as a means of self-preservation. Obama views the state as under siege, defending itself from mutiny against the empire, and intends to drag the Grand Canyon state into the coliseum to spank the living daylights out of defiant politicians and policy.

Top commander in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal also did the inexcusable. In a Rolling Stone article entitled “The Runaway General,” McChrystal candidly described an encounter with Commodus-in-Chief.

McChrystal thought Obama looked “uncomfortable and intimidated” by the roomful of military brass. Their first one-on-one meeting took place in the Oval Office four months later, after McChrystal got the Afghanistan job, and it didn’t go much better. “It was a 10-minute photo op,” says an adviser to McChrystal. “Obama clearly didn’t know anything about him, who he was. Here’s the guy who’s going to run his [expletive] war, but he didn’t seem very engaged. The Boss was pretty disappointed.”

A highly trained general at the pinnacle of his military career certainly has experience enough to recognize “unpreparedness” when he sees it. Yet the observant general found that one dare not defy Obama, because harsh recompense can befall the mighty at the hand of the weak. Remember, “Whosoever ridiculed [Commodus] he cast to the wild beasts.”

The president, like a power-hungry Roman emperor, seems driven by insecurity and exhibits disdain for disagreement. McChrystal’s comments were defined as flippant insubordination by the “furious” Obama. Thus, America’s highest-ranking legate was summoned from the heat of battle for a face-to-face reproof in Washington, D.C.

If McChrystal thought fighting the Taliban was rough, the Afghan war is nothing compared to being dressed down by a Chicago community organizer whom McChrystal all but called a “wimp in the White House.”

Although imprudent, General McChrystal and his aides spoke with unadulterated veracity about Obama’s inexperience and ineptness. Obama chastising a “Spartan commander” of McChrystal’s caliber can be likened to a Roman emperor throwing an unarmed centurion to the lions.

Though reported as a resignation, truth is President Barack Obama “ousted Gen. Stanley McChrystal” as the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan for contemptuous remarks about administration officials, which Obama contends “undermined civilian control of the military and eroded trust on the president’s war team.”

Ironically, Obama’s irresponsible international diplomacy and “poor judgment” have compromised the safety of our troops numerous times. For an amateur like Barack to intimate that McChrystal’s personal statement compromises the safety of the military in Afghanistan encapsulates the paranoid character of a current-day Commodus.

The comparisons between Barack Obama and Commodus are unsettling. According to historical texts, Commodus was a weak, inexperienced leader who came to power with great pomp and ceremony and fancied himself the god Hercules. Yet Commodus’ reign is credited with “ending years of Roman stability and prosperity.”

Like Barack Obama, Commodus entered Rome “in a triumphal procession, receiving a hero’s welcome.” To the young, “Commodus [was] an icon of new, happier days to come; his arrival sparked the highest hopes in the Roman people.”

In the name of peace, Commodus relinquished military advances the Roman Empire celebrated under Marcus Aurelius. Militarily, the Roman emperor “surrendered all his father had achieved” and retreated from “direly contested territories.” Emperor Commodus’ retreat was viewed as “an utter betrayal of everything the beloved Marcus Aurelius had stood for.”

Similar retreats from hard-won military advances may be at the crux of General McChrystal’s beef with Obama.

Like Obama, Commodus was “loved by the lower classes” because “generosity was indeed a part of his imperial program … the emperor obtained some of this funding by taxing members of the senatorial class.” The emperor “nearly bankrupted the imperial treasury with his expensive lifestyle” and then “replenished it by accusing senators of treason and having their property seized.”

Can anybody say $13-trillion deficit, “BP shakedown,” or tax the rich and “redistribute the wealth?”

Commodus identified with Roman gladiators who were drawn from the dregs of society. Commodus “played gladiator” while “the empire itself faced hard times.” Two thousand years later, Obama plays golf while Americans experience hard times.

According to Roman historian Herodian (1.15-17), “In his gladiatorial combats, [Commodus] defeated his opponents with ease, and he did no more than wound them, since they all submitted to him only because they knew he was the emperor, not because he was truly a gladiator.”

Even today, Emperor Obama nibbles clusters of grapes while terrorists sneak over the border, the economy falters, Ahmedinejad is in the process of starting a nuclear friction fire by rubbing a bomb between Iran’s Israel-hating hands, and oil hemorrhages like a severed artery into the Gulf of Mexico, smothering the American coastline.

At a sensitive time in the Afghan conflict, retribution for impertinence toward the Imperious One takes precedence over both strategy and security. General Stanley McChrystal’s resignation is merely additional collateral damage delivered by a disgraceful administration that makes sport of “degrad[ing] the most honorable either by insulting them directly or giving them offices far below their deserts.”

Commodus’ reign was filled with bad decisions, causing the people of Rome to suffer.” Truth be known, Obama is nothing more than a high-handed modern-day Commodus whose disproportionate focus is on dealing harshly with critics while Rome burns

Islamic Republic of Iran’s Smoke and Mirrors

By Arash Irandoost

Since 1977, no two men have contributed more to the erosion of America’s credibility and prestige than President Carter and his foreign policy advisor, Dr. Zbigniew Brzezinski (with the verdict not yet in on President Obama).  Jimmy Carter, aided by Mr. Brzezinski, introduced new directions in foreign policy that would ultimately trick Russia to invade Afghanistan in a cold blooded eagerness to payback Moscow for Vietnam and betray one of America’s closest allies in the Middle East.  By orchestrating the Shah’s failure and supporting Khomeini, they created one of the most militant anti-American dictatorships, considered by many as the most dangerous threat faced by the United States today.

Their short-sided and ill-conceived policies have been a source of frustration and disappointment towards America leading to lack of trust and loss of respect for this great nation.  Carter’s policies have contributed to making the Middle East an extremely turbulent region giving rise to militant and ideologically-driven Islam that has been reigning terror ever since. Indeed, Taliban and the Islamic Republic are the byproducts of such miscalculated foreign policy decisions.

Out of character for America in terms of her history, sense of morality and basic decency, policy makers in administration after administration of American continue with their failed policies aided by the intelligence community and liberal ideologues, and orchestrated by Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) financed lobbyists and “so-called: reporters; university professors; opposition and human rights activists; and Iran experts.  America is no longer the nation of Franklin Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower or Ronald Reagan. Gone are the days of America standing with democracy and freedom seeking groups.” Bending down and bending backward to appease dictators, extending an open hand to terrorist nations, allowing a regime that randomly arrests, imprisons, tortures, stones, hangs and rapes women to have a seat on UN Women’s Right Commission and ignoring blatant human rights violations by the United Nations member nations have become routine.

Such policies of appeasement have not gone unnoticed by various friends and foes.  The United States’ continuous acquiescence to IRI leaders has disenfranchised many pro democracy Iranians. Their last glimmer of hope was painfully dashed by Obama soon after his election when he extended his hand and addressed the rapist government of Iran on the occasion Iranian New Year. Frustrated by America’s silence, demonstrators risked their lives and chanted “Obama are you with them or with us?”, providing the United States with yet another opportunity to redeem itself.   Obama turned his back on them and their cries for freedom and democracy went unnoticed. Sadly, such actions have emboldened the mullahs. Reports of torture, rape and hangings continue to pour out of Iran.

Cognizant that its weapons program and human rights violations might eventually be condemned by the world community, the Islamic Republic has been spending millions of dollars on a campaign of smoke and mirrors to legitimize, justify, and hide its criminal activities and weapons program.

Lobby groups and IRI agents are hard at work to discredit pro-democracy opposition groups and dissuade the world community from taking a decisive action against Iran.  Deceitfully, they have infiltrated the universities, established foundations and mosques, bought out ethnic television stations to shape public opinion and the US policy.  They appear on American television and news stations, write books and articles, and organize public events and orchestrate rallies. Their concerted and coordinated strategy is designed to fool the United States into thinking that Regime is pragmatic, can be reformed and Mousavi is the man to bring about the needed reforms. They oppose sanctions and claim sanctions only hurt ordinary people. They push for dialogue and diplomacy, and assassinate or smear those who oppose them as CIA, Israeli agents or belonging to MEK. All aimed at buying mullahs enough time to build their nuclear bomb to continue their vile existence.

Such handlers never talk about the elephant in the room, which has systematically monopolized major business and economic sectors of the Iranian community, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), the real power in Iran. IRGC will not allow any major economic reform to be implemented.  Mousavi and any other “reformist leaders” will be powerless against them. IRGC has a lot to lose and little to gain by reforms. To some degree decisions on the nuclear weapons program indirectly rest with IRGC and not Khamenei.  IRGC drives massive revenues by keeping the nuclear program alive.  Forcing IRI to abandon its nuclear program translates to loss of a great revenue source for IRGC.

The schizophrenic position of IRI and its propagandists is indeed bizarre at best when it comes to sanctions. On the one hand, Ahmadinejad dares the West to impose strictest of sanctions, yet behind the scene he is frantically engaged in preventing it from happening.  Despite what regime’s handlers have made you believe, sanctions do work and the majority of Iranians are desirous and demanding of the strictest sanctions.  Those who claim that sanctions will hurt the ordinary people are yet to provide any credible evidence to support their assertions. Such false claims are based on a few fabricated and phony surveys. A closer examination of such surveys reveals that they were sent to very few select individuals sympathetic to the regime. There is evidence now to support that lobbyist intentionally mislead Americans and lied to Congress using fabricated information. The majority of Iranians are angry at the West and the UN by not imposing the strictest sanctions in light of regime’s blatant human rights violations.

Another strategy embedded within the propagandists’ mission is to use the potential for war as the scare tactic and portray opposition groups as “war mongers.” This is yet another ploy to push for dialogue and diplomacy with the rogue regime.  In my opinion, just the opposite is true. Facts are, despite their differences of opinion, the world community is united on one issue.  They are intent on preventing Iran from going nuclear and will not allow Iran to possess a nuclear bomb.  If successful, it is the IRI propagandists, lobby groups and IRI policies that are inching Iran towards an all out war.  Their strategy of aiding IRI to develop a nuclear weapon will ultimately lead to confrontation between Iran and the West.

The West was fooled once by Khomeini.  He was sold to American as the great visionary, a Ghandhi- and MLK-like character with saintly qualities by agenda driven propagandists. Many of IRI’s criminal activities and human rights violations were initiated by Khomeini and carried out by Mousavi and Mousavi-type characters. Mousavi sees Khomeini as his source of inspiration and dreams of returning Iran to that era. Mousavi is an anti American and a staunch supporter of the nuclear weapons program and was instrumental in establishing Hezbollah.

After the imposition of a fourth round of watered down sanctions to stop IRI’s nuclear weapons’ program, and anticipating yet another failure, decision makers in the United States must ask themselves whether they want to continue to be hoodwinked by masterful IRI propagandists and buy in their fuzzy and deceptive logic that dialogue and diplomacy is the answer, or change the course and work towards regime change and support pro democracy groups?  They need to consider that:

  • Thirty one years of appeasement and failed attempts at dialogue has been a source of frustration and embarrassment for various US leaders at various times from Carter, to Reagan, Bush, Clinton and perhaps in the not so distant future, Obama.
  • The regime is intent on developing nuclear weapons. It is a mandate from Khomeini in the aftermath of his failed war with Iraq, and a part of an ideologically driven expansionist agenda to export Islam beyond Iran’s borders.
  • An examination of IRI’s constitution, elections process, and power structure makes it abundantly clear that reform is not possible. In the regime’s mind, it is the West that needs the reform. Theirs is a religious duty and a mandate from Allah. They perceive their theocratic system of governance superior to that of any other nation.
  • Inaction by the West will have disastrous consequences for the world. With nuclear weapons at their disposal, mullahs are bent on wiping Israel off the map, expand their religion to remote corners of the universe and settle some unsettled issues.

Dr. Brzezinski’s strategy of using militant Islam against Russia has been obviously abysmal failure.  IRI not only has not served as a defense against Russia, but has intimately allied itself with her.  Many Iranians, having seen the real face fundamental Islam over the past 31 years, are turning away from it in large numbers and are converting  to Christianity and Zoroastrianism, something which Islamic Republic paid pundits do not tell Americans about. The notion that Iran is going to fall into Communist hands is no longer a valid theory. Iranian Communists and Marxists, after a sequential love and hate relationship with IRI, have now allied themselves with IRI and are working toward regime’s survival.

Regime change, if successful, will kill two birds with one stone, and hopefully get rid of both IRI and the Iranian Left.  Iranians during the demonstrations chanted several significant slogans expressing their prevailing views.  Chief among them were slogans directly aimed at Russia, another in solidarity with Israel, and yet another one against Hamas and Hezb’allah.  In reality, this is a great opportunity for the United States to seize the moment and support the Iranian prodemocracy demonstrators, since their political views are closely aligned with that of the United States.

Obama’s Wonderland Is No Fairy Tale

By Eileen F. Toplansky

As we continue to tumble down the road to economic ruin, security vulnerability, and reduced health care benefits, things become “curiouser and curiouser.” While President Obama speedily demands that General McChrystal zoom home to be dismissed from his post, the frustrated Gulf residents still cannot get all the equipment and assistance that they need to hold back the oil that is wrecking their homes and their livelihoods. Thus, one wonders as Alice in Wonderland did, “Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”

“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,” said the Cat. And herein is the American people’s conundrum. Where do we want to go as this president continues to severely damage our country and her interests?

Even Europe understands the economic catastrophe that is upon us and wonders if “we’re all mad here” as Obama and team continue to obfuscate the truth. Actor Jon Voight has publicly stated that Obama is lying to the American people. But of course, when Obama speaks, “it means just what [he] chooses it to mean — neither more nor less.”

“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”

“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master — that’s all.”

And so, in the new Patients’ Bill of Rights, Obama, “speaking ominously,” has warned the health care insurance providers that the government will “be watching [them] closely.”  Ultimately, our soft tyrannical government will be the sole arbiter of our health needs and costs. Though Obama promised otherwise, it is becoming patently obvious that eventually Americans won’t be able to keep their own insurance, since Obama has created a no-win situation for the private health insurance sector, which cannot remain financially solvent. Queues and denial of health care benefits are around the corner. Furthermore, the latest massive bill about financial reform is being pushed through Congress; Senator Dodd has said that it “is about as important as it gets, because it deals with every single aspect of our lives.” Uh-oh!

Furthermore, infatuated with himself, Obama, believed by many to be the messiah, has hurt the very people who pinned such high hopes on him. Already, accounts reveal that minorities and women — those very groups who were part of the affirmative action programs imposed by the federal government — are being adversely affected. Obama promised them pie in the sky but neglected to tell them that a house built upon financially shaky foundations will eventually fold. Moreover, Barney Frank blocks Republicans from offering amendments to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac — the source of so much of the current economic downfall — and so the charade continues, with American taxpayers propping up a defunct system. Obama pointedly dislikes the exceptional nature of America and seeks to destroy it, but are all the congressional Democrats so hateful of the country they swore to serve?

People are slowly allowing themselves to be psychologically enslaved as one group is pitted against the other. When questioned by senators about the massive expansion in hate crimes enforcement, Attorney General Holder responded that hate crimes legislation “would not necessarily cover” instances where whites, Christians, or military members were assaulted. Preferential treatment for blacks at the expense of whites and Asians was part of Obama’s tenure during his time as senator. Double standards and obvious favoritism now reign supreme. Most egregious is Holder’s dismissal of the case where New Black Panther Party members intimidated white voters. Does this portend things to come in November?

How else could Arizona now be a pariah in the Obama administration? Hypocritically, he thinks he will obtain the Hispanic vote while he undermines the rule of law. If I were of Hispanic heritage, I would be incensed at the covert discrimination this represents. It implies that Hispanic people are unlawful and irresponsible! How could other states arrogantly dismiss the genuine legal concerns of Arizonans and start boycotting this besieged state? Government does not want to actually repair the holes in our immigration program. Furthermore, Obama offends those immigrants who have obeyed the law and are adding their talents to the American tapestry. Quite unbelievably, because Obama and Holder will file lawsuits against Arizona, our Mexican neighbors are coming on board and have formally joined a lawsuit challenging Arizona’s new immigration law!

The Mexican government is merely taking its cue from the deliberate “reeling and writhing, of course, to begin with, and then the different branches of arithmetic — ambition, distraction, uglification, and derision” that Obama employs so well. First, there is his overweening ambition with no true leadership experience; then our 44th president constantly distracts with his pseudo-anger and coarse words. When that trick loses its appeal, he derides and humiliates the banks, the car companies, the BP executives, the people of Arizona, the country, the value system of America, and our allies. This is an autocrat who clearly echoes the Queen when she said, “Now I must give you fair warning: ‘either you or your head.’” There is a genuine fear in this country as people understand that to disagree with Obama and company is to invite “the boot” on their necks, so reminiscent of dictatorial governments as Obama and cronies doth “sentence first — verdict afterwards.”

Surely, “it would be so nice if something made sense for a change,” said Alice, but in Obamaworld, if one wants to deliberately undermine this country, everything he does leans in that direction. As the Duchess exclaimed, “the moral of that is — the more there is of mine, the less there is of yours.” The next generation of Americans is already burdened with the financial debacle of a $15-trillion debt with no end in sight as the federal government becomes as bloated as Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Obama’s economic plan has not improved the country, but when “four times five is twelve, and four times six is thirteen,” math takes on a wholly new and original meaning as this president confiscates money without “due process of law.”

Knowing full well that his programs could do nothing but fail because they are not sustainable, Obama sets the stage for frustration and anger. He pits groups against each other rather than open up a truly free-market economy where people would have a chance to succeed. Rile up the crowd — distract them from the issues and engage in constant polemic. Sales on new homes in May plunged 33%, but all is well in Obama Wonderland!

Indeed, after forty years of federal entitlement, there are too many Americans who may have vaguely remembered ideals like responsibility and individual initiative, who used to “know who [they were] when [they] got up this morning, but … must have been changed several times since then.” Segments of Americans have lost their fundamental moorings or were never taught about the greatness of America and are now mesmerized by the empty slogans and the articulate nonsense of this president and the congress.

Jean-Francois Revel in his book How Democracies Perish wonders how “the citizens of democratic societies [will] find reasons to resist the enemy outside if they are persuaded from childhood that their civilization is merely an accumulation of failures and a monstrous imposture. … And that attack, which is being waged with unexampled vigor [and] scope … is catching the democracies in a state of intellectual impotence and political indolence” (10).

Our history books censure the dangers of totalitarianism and falsify and embellish history, and there is no reprobation. Obama stands by as America is demeaned, and all the while the adoring crowds still believe the emperor is wearing clothes. Their gullibility or lack of facts is mind-boggling. Thus, Obama has learned well the advice of the Queen: “Be what you would seem to be — [or] if you’d like it put more simply –’Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise.’”

Will democracy “turn out to be have been a historical accident,” as Jean Francois Revel wrote?

Is U.S. Now On Slippery Slope To Tyranny?

By THOMAS SOWELL Posted June 21, 2010 06:13 PM ET

When Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.

Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they were particularly susceptible to Hitler’s rhetoric and had far less basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.

“Useful idiots” was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the Soviet Union.

Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive, or ultimately even survive.

In our times, American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece, before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and few people seem to be concerned about it.

The president’s poll numbers are going down because increasing numbers of people disagree with particular policies of his, but the damage being done to the fundamental structure of this nation goes far beyond particular counterproductive policies.

Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a president has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he deems worthy of compensation? Nowhere.

And yet that is precisely what is happening with a $20 billion fund to be provided by BP to compensate people harmed by their oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Many among the public and in the media may think that the issue is simply whether BP’s oil spill has damaged many people, who ought to be compensated.

But our government is supposed to be “a government of laws and not of men.”

If our laws and our institutions determine that BP ought to pay $20 billion — or $50 billion or $100 billion — then so be it.

But the Constitution says that private property is not to be confiscated by the government without “due process of law.”

Technically, it has not been confiscated by Barack Obama, but that is a distinction without a difference.

With vastly expanded powers of government available at the discretion of politicians and bureaucrats, private individuals and organizations can be forced into accepting the imposition of powers that were never granted to the government by the Constitution.

If you believe that the end justifies the means, then you don’t believe in constitutional government.

And, without constitutional government, freedom cannot endure. There will always be a “crisis” — which, as the president’s chief of staff has said, cannot be allowed to “go to waste” as an opportunity to expand the government’s power.

That power will of course not be confined to BP or to the particular period of crisis that gave rise to the use of that power, much less to the particular issues.

When Franklin D. Roosevelt arbitrarily took the United States off the gold standard, he cited a law passed during the First World War to prevent trading with the country’s wartime enemies. But there was no war when FDR ended the gold standard’s restrictions on the printing of money.

At about the same time, during the worldwide Great Depression, the German Reichstag passed a law “for the relief of the German people.”

That law gave Hitler dictatorial powers that were used for things going far beyond the relief of the German people — indeed, powers that ultimately brought a rain of destruction down on the German people and on others.

If the agreement with BP was an isolated event, perhaps we might hope that it would not be a precedent. But there is nothing isolated about it.

The man appointed by President Obama to dispense BP’s money as the administration sees fit, to whomever it sees fit, is only the latest in a long line of presidentially appointed “czars” controlling different parts of the economy, without even having to be confirmed by the Senate, as Cabinet members are.

Those who cannot see beyond the immediate events to the issues of arbitrary power — vs. the rule of law and the preservation of freedom — are the “useful idiots” of our time. But useful to whom?

The Democrats’ are terminally ill. It’s Five Stages

By Alex Stevenson

Elisabeth Kubler-Ross published a groundbreaking analysis of the changes that happen to people upon been informed of a terminal illness. In her 1969 book, On Death and Dying, Kubler-Ross describes five stages of grief, a process by which people deal with tragedy, especially when diagnosed with a terminal illness. Her work created awareness to the sensitivity required for better treatment of individuals who are dealing with a fatal disease.  The five stages are:

Denial is a temporary defense for the individual.

Anger — when denial fails, resistance and rage against the truth replace it.

Bargaining involves the hope that the inevitable can be delayed.

Depression is the beginning of understanding the inevitable.

Acceptance is honestly dealing with the reality of the situation.

The Democrats are going through this process.

Consider the Democrats’ response to the Tea Party Movement in terms of this analysis. The Democrats and media offer a classic instance of Denial. The unified response by the party and the media was to characterize the movement as “Astroturf.” MSM reports on the Tea Party demonstration in Washington minimized the large number of participants and labeled them as poorly organized and unlikely to have any influence on the debate of the role of the federal government in our current crisis.

The second stage, Anger, is well underway and may have peaked. The House Democrats called the Tea Party “racist,” claiming imaginary swastikas at rallies, and marched to the Capitol in force, bearing the Imperial Gavel in order to provoke an incident. The only incident was a phony spitting accusation and a nonexistent racial epithet by an entrenched incumbent race-baiter.

Looking forward in the political process, Americans should anticipate the third stage, Bargaining. The Democrats will offer up candidates under the false-flag, third-party “Tea Party.” In Florida, Democrat Congressman Alan Grayson has conspired with corrupt local operatives to register the Tea Party as a political party. The intention is to put candidates on the ballot in November in order to confuse the electorate and draw votes away from the newly invigorated Republicans. We can anticipate more of this nationally, depending on its success in Florida and Nevada.

Depression will be the overwhelming emotion in the Democrat leadership after the elections in November. They will be inconsolable and difficult to deal with in the depths of their despair, and not just a little dangerous. The few months between the November election and new members taking their seats in House and Senate will be a lame duck session we all should fear.

The final stage is Acceptance. Will the Democrats ever abandon the tactics that delegitimize a Republican majority? Accusations of election fraud and lawsuits will be in the news in the period following any significant Democrat loss. It is doubtful that the Democrats will ever accept the new situation and start the cycle of grief over from the first stage, denial. The rage will be renewed through the rent-a-mob, and bargaining will begin anew as committee seats are renegotiated.

Depression will bring the retirement of the previous powerful committee chairmen and other figures unable to deal with their loss, thus setting the stage for a new generation of Democrats, who will adjust to the new power structure. Acceptance will be required to advance any legislation favored by the Democrats, so in the long run, the new generation will come to terms.

Amid crises, Obama declares war — on Arizona !

The Obama administration has a lot of fights on its hands. Putting aside real wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, there’s the battle against leaking oil in the Gulf, the struggle against 9.7 percent unemployment across the country, and clashes over the president’s agenda on Capitol Hill. Despite all that, the White House has found time to issue a new declaration of war, this time against an unlikely enemy: the state of Arizona.

The Justice Department is preparing to sue Arizona over its new immigration law. The president has stiffed Gov. Jan Brewer’s call for meaningful assistance in efforts to secure the border. And the White House has accused Arizona’s junior senator, Republican Jon Kyl, of lying about an Oval Office discussion with the president over comprehensive immigration reform. Put them all together, and you have an ugly state of affairs that’s getting uglier by the day.

First, the lawsuit. Last week, Brewer was appalled to learn the Justice Department’s intentions not from the Justice Department but from an interview done by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with an Ecuadorian TV outlet. “It would seem to me that if they were going to file suit against us,” Brewer told Fox News’ Greta van Susteren last week, “they definitely would have contacted us first and informed us before they informed citizens … of another nation.”

But they didn’t.

“There certainly seems to be an underlying disrespect for the state of Arizona,” says Kris Kobach, the law professor and former Bush administration Justice Department official who helped draft the Arizona law. Kobach points out that during the Bush years, several states openly flouted federal immigration law on issues like sanctuary cities and in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. Respecting the doctrines of comity and federalism, the Bush administration didn’t sue. Now, when Arizona passes a measure that is fully consistent with federal law, the Obama administration, says Kobach, “goes sprinting to the courthouse door.”

Then there is the matter of the White House’s assistance, or nonassistance, in Arizona’s border-security efforts. On June 3, the president, under criticism for refusing to meet or even talk to Brewer, reluctantly granted her an audience in the Oval Office. After the meeting, Brewer told reporters Obama pledged that administration officials would come to Arizona within two weeks with details of plans to secure the border.

June 17 marked two weeks, and there were no administration officials and no plans. There still aren’t. “What a disappointment,” Brewer told van Susteren. “You know, when you hear from the president of the United States and he gives you a commitment, you would think that they would stand up and stand by their word. It is totally disappointing.”

And now, there’s the Kyl controversy. On June 18, Kyl told a town meeting in North Phoenix that Obama personally told him the administration will not secure the U.S.-Mexico border because doing so would make it politically difficult to pass comprehensive immigration reform. “I met with the president in the Oval Office, just the two of us,” Kyl said. “Here’s what the president said. The problem is, he said, if we secure the border, then you all won’t have any reason to support comprehensive immigration reform.”

“In other words,” Kyl continued, “they’re holding it hostage. They don’t want to secure the border unless and until it is combined with comprehensive immigration reform.”

After Kyl’s statement went viral on the Internet, the White House issued a sharp denial. “The president didn’t say that and Senator Kyl knows it,” communications director Dan Pfeiffer wrote on the White House blog. “There are more resources dedicated toward border security today than ever before, but, as the president has made clear, truly securing the border will require a comprehensive solution to our broken immigration system.”

Kyl is not backing down. “What I said occurred, did occur,” he told an Arizona radio station. “Some spokesman down at the White House said no, that isn’t what happened at all, and then proceeded to say we need comprehensive immigration reform to secure the border. That is their position, and all I was doing was explaining why, from a conversation with the president, why it appears that that’s their position.”

Even if it didn’t have so many other fights on its hands, it would be unusual for an administration to align itself against an American state. But that’s precisely what has happened. Soon it will be up to the courts and voters to decide whether Obama’s campaign against Arizona will succeed or fail.

How long before we see ‘Christie-Brewer in 2012′ bumper stickers?

Published: Jun 04, 2010

In New Jersey, Gov. Chris Christie is giving the nation’s political class a seminar on how to deal with the public employee unions that are bankrupting state and local governments across the country with excessive compensation and pension demands. Christie is a tough customer who knows his facts, knows his opponents even better, and makes his case boldly. In Arizona, Gov. Jan Brewer calls President Obama’s bluff on the immigration issue and in the process re-framing the national debate about securing the border, the true costs of dealing with illegal immigrants, confronting the reality of the drug war in Mexico and how it hurts this nation, and much else. Here’s betting that somewhere…

How Conservatives Should Handle Immigration
05/05/2010

In their desperation, President Obama and senators with large Latino populations in their states (like Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.) are seeking to polarize Hispanic and Anglo sentiment over the issue of illegal immigration. In his frequent messages calling for a higher Latino and black turnout and his condemnation of the Arizona immigration law, Obama is trying to recapture over immigration the voter approval he lost over health care.

Arizona acted as it did because of a lack of federal enforcement of federal law barring undocumented immigrants. With a porous border, they felt that they were left no choice but to pass a law allowing potentially intrusive searches to ferret out illegal immigrants.

Because this law could subject American citizens of Hispanic origin to undue scrutiny and perhaps to needless trips to the police station, the Arizona law antagonizes the jump ball in the immigration debate — Latino-American voters. If there were a real national identification card, the requirement to produce papers might be less intrusive. But, as it is, with the burden of proof on the citizen (or the illegal immigrant), the law is bound to raise tensions between Anglo cops and Latino citizens.

But being forced to support or oppose the Arizona law is a false choice. It reflects the unimaginative politics of confrontation that jeopardize race relations and elect demagogues like Barack Obama. (Obama’s share of the white vote was the same as John Kerry won in 2004. He was elected only because of a 3 point increase in black turnout and a shift in Latino votes to his corner. He won because of race, and now he schemes to keep control of Congress by using the immigration issue.)

The real answer is not to round up Latinos in the streets of Phoenix and hope to catch illegals in the net. Nor is it even to pretend that we can stop determined men and women from crossing the border by more guards, more troops and better equipment. The answer is to dry up the will to cross the border in the first place by stopping employers from offering jobs to undocumented workers. If there were felony penalties — jail time — for hiring illegals, they would not be hired. And, if there were no jobs, there would be no illegal immigration.

The Republican position on illegal immigration should be to demand tough employer sanctions, including jail, and coupling that program with a vigorous guest worker program to bring needed workers in legally, pay them a living wage and then escort them out when they are no longer needed. The United States, in need of a younger population to pay for our current and future retirees, should also raise the allowed levels of immigration.

Both parties are hypocritical on immigration. Democrats, controlled by unions, want Latinos to vote but not work. Republicans, controlled by agribusiness interests, want them to work but not to vote. The answer is to stand up to union and to agribusiness pressure and take tough action to stop the hiring of illegal immigrants.

If there were no jobs for illegals outside of guest-worker programs, there would be no need for amnesty. They would all go home of their own accord or wait until they got legal status.

We would need a foolproof, biometric identity card to speed identification of those eligible for employment to accompany the sanctions against hiring illegals, but this is a small price to pay for an answer to so pressing a problem.

But Obama will not take the step that could end illegal immigration. Why? Because he wants immigration. He seeks to reshape the partisan balance in America by increasing the number of Latino voters and marrying them to the Democratic Party by provoking Republicans who just want law and order to appear as racist to Hispanic-Americans.

His is a game of great duplicity and racial opportunism. But good legislation can defeat his designs and solve one of our most pressing domestic problems at the same time.

Obama Assails Arizona Immigration Law

 The Wall Street Journal

In an unusual White House attack on state legislation, President Barack Obama harshly criticized an Arizona measure to crack down on illegal immigration and made clear Friday that he is looking for an election-year fight over the volatile issue.

Hours later, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed the nation’s toughest immigration law, making illegal immigration a state crime and requiring police to question people about their immigration status if officers suspect they are in the U.S. illegally.

Brewer, a Republican, said the state action was forced by Washington’s failure to secure the U.S. borders and solve the nation’s thorny illegal immigration problem. “Decades of inaction and misguided policy have created a dangerous and unacceptable situation,” she said.

The president said it was the state that was “misguided” and that the Arizona measure would “undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans.”

Obama said he instructed the Justice Department to “examine the civil rights and other implications” of the new law. Justice officials said they were considering their options, and it wasn’t clear Friday what they might do. Regardless, the law seemed certain to be challenged in court by opponents.

Arizona and other states allow police to check immigration status if a person is under investigation for another crime.

The president’s comments, delivered during a Rose Garden naturalization ceremony for members of the armed forces, was a forceful sign that Obama planned to push the immigration issue before the November elections, responding to frustration among Hispanic voters and their advocates over inaction.
