Oppose and Stop the NYC Mosque
Lazio: Cuomo and Holder now “even more outside the mainstream”
The Imam in charge of the construction refused to acknowledge that Hamas is a terrorist organization. (New York Post, 6/19/10) The Imam of the project is a member of Perdana Global, the single largest funder of the flotilla that tried to break the blockade of Gaza by Israeli defense forces. (New York Post, 6/5/10) The questionable background of the funding sources for the construction of the Mosque. (New York Post, 5/25/10)
Given that the Cordoba Initiative is a registered charitable organization with the New York Attorney General’s Office, it would be the height of irresponsibility for Andrew Cuomo not to conduct a thorough investigation of the previous items highlighted by the media with respect to the construction of this Mosque in lower Manhattan.
The people have the right to know if this “charity” is using its resources in a legitimate, legal, and charitable way.
Join us and add your name to this list of your fellow New Yorkers and tell Attorney General Andrew Cuomo to investigate the Cordoba Initiative.
I’m Tom Ognibene. I’m running for Lt. Governor on the Republican and Taxpayers lines alongside my candidate for Governor, Carl Paladino.
The Port Authority PBA says the proposed Cordoba Mosque at 45 Park Place should not be a political issue. Carl and I agree. Nevertheless, construction of this mosque near Ground Zero is a slap in the face of the people of the City and State of New York – and the United States of America.
Andrew Cuomo and Mike Bloomberg have said the matter is an issue of religious freedom. Carl Paladino and I disagree with them. Rick Lazio says the matter should be investigated, but the time to investigate is over.
The politicians should stop trying to walk between the raindrops. We must confront this issue head on and end the hand wringing.
The memories of those who died at the site and in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan must be protected, respected and honored. The Cordoba mosque and community center would be an insult to all Americans – especially our soldiers and New York’s heroic first responders.
The building at 45 Park Place was abandoned after a piece of one of the hijacked planes crashed through its roof on September 11th. Thousands were murdered in that brutal attack on America. This is the burial ground of the first deaths in a 10-year war, for God’s sake.
Senator Chuck Schumer and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and the Manhattan delegation in the House of Representatives must immediately introduce legislation in the United States Congress designating the entire Ground Zero site as a National War Memorial and 45 Park Place must be included.
The application process rests in the hands of Congress through their American Battle Monuments Commission, the ABMC. Although 36 USC §2105 says that the ABMC will take care of all the plans and estimates for the memorial, the site still needs to be protected.
Pending the approval of the designation, Mayor Bloomberg must stop all construction and permit proceedings. Full stop.
By doing so, we can prevent the construction of the $100 million mosque, 600 feet from where the World Trade Center was struck down.
The site where over 3,000 Americans were killed on September 11, 2001 is no different from the site where thousands of American troops were killed on December 7, 1941- at Pearl Harbor.
Could you imagine a Japanese cultural center and temple next to the USS Arizona Memorial?
Declaring the entire site of the disaster a National War Memorial should be the highest priority for our leadership.
The Mosque projects are fostered by the American Society for Muslim Advancement and the Cordoba initiative. We don’t even know: are these fronts for the extremist views of Islamic zealots who rained death and destruction on New York City – on America.
The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District should demand information on the source of the $100,000,000 to build the project to determine if there is a violation of the Patriot Act.
In U.S. interviews, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, who is behind the planning and construction of the Mosque, insists the money will be raised from within the United States. But Imam Rauf told a London paper he plans to ask Arab and Muslim nations around the world for money.
There is a significant possibility that funding is coming from foreign donors that operate under Sharia Law. Imam Rauf advocates Sharia Law, the same law forcing the execution of a woman by stoning in Iran as punishment for adultery.
The United States is a party to human rights treaties that would call for extradition of anyone attempting to use such means of capital punishment. And the Patriot Act provides that it is a crime to use money from a person or entity that is in violation of a Treaty to which the United States is a party.
The use of the money is illegal. The Cordoba Mosque must be stopped.
Our elected leaders are obligated to stop the construction of a Mosque on the hollowed ground where radical Islamists declared War on the United States of America.
45 Park Place should be a War Memorial.
Constructing this mosque violates the Patriot Act.
And it is a slap in the face to the American people.
Thank you very much.
Carl Paladino Carl’s LG Tom Ognibene: No Mosque at Ground Zero – it’s a War Memorial
Statement of Jay Townsend, testifying before the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on the proposed construction of a Mosque at Ground Zero.
July 13, 2010
I spoke against the construction of this mosque at Ground Zero about a month ago in Lower Manhattan to a gathering of more than 1,000 people, including many family members of the victims.
I am here again today as a candidate for United States Senate to again voice my opposition. To date, I am the only one of seven U.S. Senate candidates who has been willing to take a position on this issue.
Because of my opposition to this, I have been called the same names as many others in this room today. I state for the record that we are not religious bigots because we oppose this. We are intolerant of the intolerance that was on display that day on September 11, 2001. We are intolerant of the violence done to 3,000 freedom loving people who lost their lives that day.
I know I speak on behalf of the majority of New Yorkers who oppose the location of this mosque at Ground Zero. We oppose it because it is insensitive to the memory of those who lost their lives that day and to those who risked their lives to save those who were slaughtered on that sacred plot of soil.
I am a long-time New Yorker. I have been all over the world. I can tell you this: The people who live in the City of New York are the most tolerant people in the world. There are hundreds of places in New York City to build a Mosque. But to those who insist on building it at Ground Zero, I simply must say “Not there. Not Now.”

We have written about it here, and others are complaining, but New York city authorities will not listen. Will this slick but honest video help to turn the tide of official opinion?
Imam Feisal Rauf, the central figure in the coterie planning a huge mosque near Ground Zero, is a full-throated champion of the very same Muslim theologians and jurists identified in a landmark NYPD report as central to promoting the Islamic religious bigotry that fuels modern jihad terrorism.

“Ground Zero Mosque” imam refuses to sign “Freedom Pledge”
But you still have time to sign our petition
The “Ground Zero Mosque” imam’s mask of inclusiveness continues to be pierced with the truth.
Cooing the words of tolerance that have duped Mayor Bloomberg and so many other leaders in New York City is no substitute for action.
One would think an imam really committed to tolerance, peace and inclusiveness would have no qualms about signing a “Freedom Pledge,” which includes a pledge to oppose any form of sharia-sanctioned punishment against “apostates” of Islam (those who have left Islam).
As the revealing commentary below notes, the “Ground Zero Mosque” imam has refused to sign this pledge. Actions do indeed speak louder than words.
So far nearly 63,000 people have signed our petition opposing the ground zero mosque. If you haven’t yet done so, please take two minutes to add your name today.

Exclusive: Peace, Tolerance and Religious Freedom? No Way
Alyssa A. Lappen
Ground Zero mosque wanna-be developers show their true radical colors
On October 20, 2009, American Society of Muslim Advancement (ASMA) leader Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife Daisy Khan, both received a letter from Former Muslims United (FMU) requesting that they each sign the latter’s Freedom Pledge. Neither has yet signed.
Rauf and Khan both claim to be moderate Muslims. Yet they are determined to rip down a 150-year-old wrought iron building — less than 200 feet from Ground Zero — where a piece of jumbo jet fell through its roof on 9/11 after Saudi suicide bombers flew two loaded passenger planes into each of the World Trade Center towers. The fuselage remains in the building to date. In its place, Rauf and Khan want to build a 13-story mosque.
The Cordoba Initiative, an ASMA subsidiary, claims the building will not be a mosque but a “cultural center” open to all. However, ASMA registered itself as a “church” with the Internal Revenue Service — not a cultural institute open to all, according to Guidestar. The building will indeed be a mosque, and open to all only so as to “invite” non-Muslims to Islam. In Malaysia the title of Rauf’s 2004 book What’s Right With Islam, complete with its introduction from Muslim Brotherhood devotee Karen Armstrong, translates to “The Call from the WTC Rubble.” For decades, Rauf and Khan have operated entirely in sync with global Muslim Brotherhood “flexibility” guidelines, which in North America seek to replace the U.S. Constitution with Islamic law.
Now there is new evidence that ASMA’s purportedly “moderate” leaders do not support basic human rights for former Muslims: They failed to even acknowledge an October 20, 2009 invitation from Former Muslims United to sign its Freedom Pledge.
FMU initially sent the Freedom Pledge, fully named the “Muslim Pledge for Religious Freedom and Safety from Harm for Former Muslims,” to 59 major Muslim leaders at 24 Muslim organizations in time for them to have it on September 25, 2009 — the day on which, 220 years earlier, the U.S. Congress passed the Bill of Rights. The letters to Rauf and his wife Daisy Khan were sent in a second Oct. 20, 2009 round of invitations that went to 51 Muslim leaders at 26 more organizations, including ASMA, which houses the Cordoba Initiative.
In their request that Muslim leaders sign the Freedom Pledge, FMU executive director Nonie Darwish, and her colleagues Ibn Warraq, Mohammed Asghar, Wafa Sultan, and Amil Imani wrote
“we now pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor to achieve for former Muslims their unalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We claim these rights as the foundation for our right to freedom from Shariah. We urge you to join us.”
The 878- word Freedom Pledge itself outlines the principles of Islamic law under which apostates from Islam are subject to the death penalty. It notes that the four schools of Sunni Islam — Hanafi, Miliki, Shafi’i and Hanbali — “unanimously agree that a former Muslim male, also known as an apostate, must be executed” and that a woman, at best must be “imprisoned or beaten five times a day until she repents or dies” and at worst, like men executed outright. It then goes on to cite 1978 and 1989 religious rulings — from the Fatwa Council at Al Azhar University, the closest Muslim equivalent to the Vatican, and the Mufti of Lebanon, each, respectively consigning a renegade Muslim to death if they “do not repent.” Perhaps “a misunderstanding on his part may have taken place, and there would thus be an opportunity to rectify it,” intones the Mufti. But he must do so within three days, or die.
“Overwhelmingly, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and his wife Daisy Khan … do not honor freedom to choose one’s beliefs as guaranteed under our [U.S.] First Amendment,” said Nonie Darwish in response to their dead silence since October 20, 2009. “That is the only conclusion we can draw” by their failure to acknowledge or sign the Freedom Pledge.
Rauf and Khan nevertheless hope to convince Americans that they think exactly the opposite. On July 6, 2010 at the Chautauqua Institute in New York state, Khan said
“The Quran speaks of humankind as one nation under God. We find that in America,…. The Quran speaks of one creator and the founding document says that everyone is endowed by the creator with inalienable rights.”
During the question and answer period that followed, an audience member asked Khan if the proposed Cordoba House mosque 200 feet from Ground Zero could be seen as a victory for Muslim radicals infiltrating America. She replied,
“It is a defeat to the extremists, … because Cordoba House will celebrate the very ideology that the extremists detest, which is the ideology of inclusiveness, pluralism, and coexistence between faiths.”
Khan referred there specifically to Quran Chapter 3, verse 109, which states,
“To God belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth, and unto Him all matters are returned.”
However, she deceptively omits the critical following verse, 3:110, clearly stating that Muslims alone — not other human beings — are acceptable to Allah.
“You are the best nation ever brought forth to men, bidding to honor, and forbidding dishonor, and believing in God. Had the People of the Book believed, it were better for them; some of them are believers, but the most of them are ungodly.”
The point is reiterated, moreover, in the Tafsir (commentary) on the verse by al-Jalalayn:
“You, O community of Muhammad (s), are the best community brought forth, manifested, to men, according to God’s knowledge, enjoining decency, and forbidding indecency, and believing in God. Had the People of the Scripture believed, it, their belief, would have been better for them; some of them are believers, such as ‘Abd Allah b. Salam, may God be pleased with him and his companions; but most of them, the disbelievers, are wicked.”
The Quran expresses the same revulsion for non-Muslim “disbelievers” in Chapter 98, verse 6:
“The unbelievers of the People of the Book and the idolaters shall be in the Fire of Gehenna, therein dwelling forever; those are the worst of creatures.”
The al-Jalalayn Tafsir on this verse is equally adamant about the evils of unbelievers:
“Truly the disbelievers from among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters shall be in the fire of Hell, to abide therein (khalidina: an implied circumstantial qualifier, in other words, it will be decreed for them by God, exalted be He, to abide therein) — those are the worst of creatures.”
This is not the stuff of sweetness, love and light. Rather, it reflects Rauf’s genuine feelings, as he has more than once expressed in Arabic. Clearly, Rauf himself reveres sharia law and wants to impose it. On Dec. 9, 2007, Rauf told the popular Arabic newspaper Hadi el-Islam,
“Throughout my discussions with contemporary Muslim theologians, it is clear an Islamic state can be established in more than just a single form or mold. It can be established through a kingdom or a democracy. The important issue is to establish the general fundamentals of Sharia that are required to govern.
“In the period after the Prophet, peace be upon him, new laws were permitted so long of course as these laws do not contradict the Quran or the Deeds of Muhammad… so they create institutions that assure [that there are] no conflicts with sharia.
“We recommend that in the case of a breakdown in the relationship between state and religious institutions … that the people follow the method of giving peaceful advice to governors and state institutions and use peaceful means [to convert them].
“And also [to] suggest that the rulers and political bodies consult with religious bodies and religious figures … so that [political] decisions reflect the spirit of the [sharia] law.
In March 2010, he even denounced interfaith discussions. The article in another popular Arabic journal, Rights4All, was entitled “The Most Prominent Imam in New York: ‘I Do Not Believe in Religious Dialogue’,” according to former Muslim and native Arabic speaker Walid Shoebat. In it, Rauf spoke against both “religious dialogue” and “interweaving into the mainstream society.”
“This phrase is inaccurate. Religious dialogue as customarily understood is a set of events with discussions in large hotels that result in nothing. Religions do not dialogue and dialogue is not present in the attitudes of the followers, regardless of being Muslim or Christian.”
Given these sentiments, it is no wonder whatever that neither Rauf nor his wife Daisy Khan would sign the FMU Freedom Pledge, promising to
“renounce, repudiate and oppose any physical intimidation, or worldly and corporal punishment, of apostates from Islam, in whatever way that punishment may be determined or carried out by myself or any other Muslim including the family of the apostate, community, Mosque leaders, Shariah court or judge, and Muslim government or regime.”
In fact, only two of the 111 Muslim leaders in 50 U.S. Muslim organizations to whom FMU sent the Freedom Pledge actually signed it. Those two heroes are Zuhdi Jasser (American Islamic Forum for Democracy) and Dr. Ali Alyami (Center for Democracy and Human Rights in Saudi Arabia).
The sad facts are these:
At Chautauqua on July 6, Daisy Khan should have told the truth: Yes, allowing a mosque to go up in place of an historic building at Ground Zero would be a triumph for extremist Muslims. Moreover, ASMA and the Cordoba Institute are among the heavy weight extremists leading that charge.

OPINION: The truth behind the mosque at Ground Zero
This weekend I went on the record for opposing the mosque at Ground Zero. I wanted to bring attention to this issue at my birthday party at 49 Grove however one reporter interrupted my speech to call me a racist and say that I was against freedom of religion and scream obscenities at my friends. Funny, I guess this same reporter is against freedom of speech since I wasn’t even able to finish a sentence before he tried to assault my campaign manager.
I am not a racist. I do not have anything against Muslims or the millions of moderate Muslim Americans that live in this country. But this mosque is not being built by moderate Muslims.
The leaders of this mosque have ties to radical Islam. They have lied about the sources of their funding. They have gone on the record blaming American ideology for the events of 9/11. They perpetuate a radical ideology – an ideology that goes against everything Americans (Muslim Americans included) stand for.
Supporters of the mosque would have you believe that anyone against it is denying Muslims their constitutional right to freedom of religion and are racists in their beliefs. The issue of the mosque is not about race nor is it about religion.
Freedom of religion is one of our Constitution rights. This also means that we have freedom FROM religion; we can choose what we want to believe. This is not the case in for Muslims- under Islamic law.
According to Islamic law, a person who leaves Islam is to be killed. Death for apostasy is sanctioned in Sharia law and is required according to the Koran. Not only is submission to Sharia law required of all Muslims according to Islamic doctrine and law, it is also required of all non-Muslims.
They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them (Koran, 4:89)
The leader of the Ground Zero mosque, Imam Faisal Abdul Rauf, has direct ties to radical Islam- an ideology built on hatred of America. Rauf has failed to respond to the requests from numerous citizens awareness groups requesting he pledge to respect the Bill of Rights and to repudiate the Islamic obligation of killing those who leave Islam. To the contrary, in an interview with 60 minutes, Rauf issued numerous anti-American statements and stated that the “United States’ policies were an accessory to the crime that happened” and that “in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA.”
Article 6 of the US Constitution states:
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land;
Since Rauf upholds Islamic Law, which is in direct opposition to our Constitution, how can we afford him constitutional rights?
The very law he lives his life by and his ideology is the archenemy of the freedoms our country is built on. The Ground Zero mosque cannot then be built anywhere within the United States as the ideology promulgated in mosques is in opposition to the Constitution.
Imam Rauf says that New York Muslims provided nearly $5 million in cash to buy the Ground Zero location. Yet in fiscal year 2009, Rauf received large international donations. In the year ended June 30, 2009 — days before Feisal closed the purchase — he received at least $1.3 million. The largest donation, $576,312, came from Qatar – a country long known for harboring terror financiers and even the government stands accused of funding international terrorism.
I say – Show us the money Imam Rauf! Where is your funding really coming from?
Supporters of the Ground Zero mosque claim that since only a few Muslims are involved in terrorism that we should therefore encourage the majority non-violent/non-jihadist “moderate” Muslims by supporting their mosque building. However Imam Rauf is not a moderate muslim and these mosques are easily infiltrated with radical ideology. For example, in 2008, a survey deemed “Mapping Sharia in America Project,” by the Washington-based Center for Security Policy infiltrated mosques and Islamic Centers throughout the United States in an effort to bring to attention those that posed a threat to the national security of the country. Agents- consisting of former FBI, CIA, and U.S. military counterintelligence and counterterrorism personnel – discovered that out of the initial 100 (mosques and Islamic centers) mapped, 75 were preaching sermons calling for insurrection and jihad. Such places also had Saudi-trained Imams.
The site of the proposed mosque at Ground Zero is hallowed ground – it is 600 feet from Ground Zero (less than 2 football fields) – directly on top of bodies of the men and women who were murdered there. We are in an ideological war and the ideology that motivated the atrocities of 9/11 is radical Islam and its perpetual war against non-Muslims. It is self-deceiving and self-destructive to pretend that this is not so.
This is not my opinion, this is fact – said by Osama bin Laden himself:
The ruling to kill the Americans and their allies — civilians and military — is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it, in order to liberate the al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy mosque [Mecca] from their grip, and in order for their armies to move out of all the lands of Islam, defeated and unable to threaten any Muslim. This is in accordance with the words of Almighty Allah, “and fight the pagans all together as they fight you all together,” and “fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah (Osama bin Laden)
Our history is replete with examples of ideological fanatics running wars and committing atrocities. A center dedicated to glorifying and spreading the very same ideology that motivated the heinous murders of 9/11, built on the site of those murders, is offensive to the victims and would be testimony to our moral and ethical weakness as a society.
We are in a war with an opposing ideology whose purpose, through jihad is to cause our destruction. There is nothing at stake in this but everything we stand for.
